Oddword is a free daily word game where the rarest words win. Every day, everyone in the world gets the same eight letters. You have ten words to spend. The fewer players who find a word, the more it scores.
Nothing. There are no ads, and the only thing we measure is anonymous page counts. You can play every day without an account. An account is only needed to keep your progress across devices, to play duels and to add friends. See the privacy page for exactly what is stored.
Oddword uses ENABLE, a public-domain tournament word list, including plurals and verb forms. Names, abbreviations and hyphenated words do not count, and offensive words are not allowed. Definitions come from Open English WordNet and Wiktionary.
Before anyone has played a day, each word’s rarity comes from a simulated crowd of players. It draws on word frequencies from wordfreq by Robyn Speer, and on the word-prevalence study by Marc Brysbaert, Paweł Mandera, Samantha McCormick and Emmanuel Keuleers (“Word prevalence norms for 62,000 English lemmas”, Behavior Research Methods, 2019), which asked about 220,000 people which words they knew. As real players play, their finds take over. See the full credits.
